Safe2school.com is a new method to offer road safety education through the internet for primary education students in the age of 10 to 12. Within Safe2school, every local party or person concerned with a road safe school environment is linked to extensive road safety knowledge in a unique way. Safe2school supports students, teachers, school governors, parents, municipalities and the police in a mutual effort to improve road safety in the school environment.

Personal school route
At the basis of Safe2school is the personal school route, which every student reports through the website www.safe2school.com, and their perception of road safety on this route and within the school environment. Teachers use this information to do specific assignments with the students on location and in the class room. Within the assignments they learn how to deal with road unsafety at the hazardous locations of their personal school route. The assignments are available through the website.

Action Program Road Safe School
The information about the school routes, methods of transport and the experienced unsafety by the students, is being used to set up the Action Program Road Safe School (APRSS). The APRSS makes it possible for the school, s tudents and parents to work together and to take measures which are within reach of the school. I t also enables them to map out small road safety measures for the police and municipality. The website assists them in this process. Every country has its own characteristics with respect to road safety in the school environment. Therefore the framework for the APRSS will be determined in consultation. The information from Safe2school is also valuable for the municipality and the police itself. In The Netherlands it enables them,
in combination with other road safety data, to set up a specific policy for safe school routes and incorporate this into a School Road Safety Plan (SRSP).

Safe2school is an educational method which has been tested thoroughly in the Netherlands, one of the safest countries in the world. Safe2school is currently used in The Netherlands and Belgium by elementary schools.
